6th International Meeting of Youth Theatre
organized by Theaterpädagogisches Zentrum Brixen from 1st to 5th June 2011
The aim of the 6th International Theatre Meeting sapperlot is to host a variety of performances that reflect the cultural diversity of the international youth theatre that present a global picture of the high quality of youth theatre.
GENERAL RULES Chapter 1: General rules Article 1 The 6th International Meeting sapperlot benefits from the effective support of the Südtiroler Landesregierung, Abteilung für die Deutsche Kultur. It takes place in Brixen from 1st to 5th June 2011.
Chapter II: Aims Article 2 The aim of 6th International Meeting of Youth Theatre 2011 is to present, through a variety of performances and subsequent critical analyses, colloquies and workshops, a global picture of the diverse trends in youth theatre, and to encourage networks between youth theatre groups.
Article 3 In accordance with the ideals of AITA/IATA asbl, it is essential that the participating performances present cultural diversity, through scenic forms and dramatic expressions. Since the audience will be international, participating groups are strongly advised to present predominantly visual performances.
Article 4 In accordance with the decision of AITA/IATA asbl, the 6th International Meeting of Youth Theatre sapperlot is not competitive and no prizes or monetary awards are given. The participation in the festival will be acknowledged by the “sapperlotl”, a festival souvenir, which can be refused to any company not conforming to the Festival rules.
Article 5 To promote education and cultural and artistic development, the Festival Committee will organize workshops of a high international standard. These workshops will be free of charge to all the participants of the 6th International Meeting of Youth Theatre sapperlot. The Festival Committee of 6th International Meeting of Youth Theatre sapperlot will define the workshops and appoint the workshop leaders.
Chapter III: Conditions of participation Article 6 The number of participating groups at the 6th International Meeting of Youth Theatre sapperlot is determined to 9 companies, three of them from the Theaterpädagogisches Zentrum Brixen. The actors should be in the age between 15 and 20 years. Exceptions can be made in agreement with the Festival Committee.
Article 7 Each participating company will present a complete theatrical performance, experimental or traditional, classic or modern, published or unpublished and not longer than 60 minutes duration. Because of the limited place in the audience of some theatres the participating companies may be requested to perform their play twice. Actors, directors and technicians of the invited theatre companies will not be paid for the performances by the Theaterpädagogisches Zentrum Brixen. Participating companies may be requested to prepare dances, songs, games, … for the fringe program.
Article 8 The participating groups make sure that they arrive at 1st June for the opening ceremony at 6 pm and will be present during the whole festival period including the closing ceremony which will be held at 4th June until midnight. Participating companies are requested to take part in all activities in the fringe of the festival. They make sure to be in time and to show a respectful behavior during the performances of the other groups.
Article 9 The Theaterpädagogisches Zentrum Brixen will pay for the accommodation costs of the groups participating in the Festival. The number of participants in each group is not limited, but the Theaterpädagogisches Zentrum Brixen will only pay for the accommodation and meals of 12 people per group, for the whole festival period and not longer. The people involved can be actors, a director or technicians of the presented performance. All financial transactions must be settled upon arrival in Italy. Traveling expenses will be the responsibility of the participating group.
Article 10 The companies are required to bring any special sets, furniture and properties needed for their performance, since the Festival Committee can provide only regular curtains, general furniture and properties. Technical demands (concerning lighting, sounds, smoke machine, ….) which have not been mentioned in the application will not be provided by the Festival Committee. We recommend participating groups restrict their set design to a minimum. Set up time for sets, props on stage and light is limited to 90 minutes.
Article 10 The theatres in which companies will present their performances will be placed at their disposal, in proper working order with technical staff. The available stages will be shown on the festival´s homepage www.tpz-brixen.org to allow participating groups to have an overview of the theatres prior to the arrival to Brixen.
Article 11 Each company is responsible for obtaining, from the relevant agent, written permission to present their performance at the 6th International Meeting of Youth Theatre sapperlot. This authorization must reach the Festival Committee by May 15th 2011 at the latest.
Article 12 Each company must supply the Festival Committee, within the deadline, with the information and documents requested in Festival questionnaires and circulars. Failure to do so could result in the company losing its right to participate in the Festival.
Article 13 It is the group’s sole responsibility to obtain an appropriate VISA for Italy. If groups need any material from the Festival Committee (i.e. invitation letter), please contact us as soon as possible. We strongly recommend that all groups obtain travel insurance.

including 1. a description of the group and its activities; 2. the play synopsis; 3. the detailed technical design; 4. five different photographs (color and/or black and white) of the play; 5. if possible a video recording, DVD or VHS standard, of the entire play, taken in wide shot with a fixed camera 6. declaration (see attachement)
Application deadline: 30th October 2010 Confirmation of participation: 30th November 2010 Complete dossier: 31st January 2011
including 1. a complete list of all participants with address, birth date and place, passport number and other information; 2. time of arrival and departure; 3. a list of all used music titles/composer
Article 15 The decision of final selection belongs to the Festival Committee within the 15th of November 2010.
Article 16 The Festival Committee will make the final selection within 15th November 2010 after viewing the proposed performances. The decisions will be notified to the involved groups, during the month of November 2010. Official invitations will be sent by the Organizing Committee not later than 28th February 2011.
Article 17 No group will be allowed to give a performance within 100 kilometers of Brixen, Italy, during the period from 1st May to 30th June 2011, without the Festival Committee’s written authorization.
Chapter V: Organization Article 17 The Festival Committee will decide the date, time and place of the performances according to the requirements of the program. Because of the limited place in the audience of some theatres the participating companies may be requested to perform their play twice. The Festival Committee sets the planning of the Festival activities which are notified to the participants by E-mails. Participants must conform to the rules and most importantly to the timetable.
Article 18 The interpretation of the general rules is the responsibility of the Festival Committee. Points not covered in the above articles will be subject to the Festival Committee’s decision. These decisions will be communicated to the participants by circulars.
Article 19 Each company invited to take part in the Festival (actors, technicians or producers) is duty bound to respect these rules. Serious infringement or non-application of these rules may, depending on the Festival Committee‘s decision, entail the immediate withdrawal of the invitation and the cancellation of the official presentation as well as, when appropriate, the refusal of the official festival souvenir “sapperlotl”.
